Puppies are typically weaned off their mother’s milk from around the age of 8 weeks. The goal of feeding growing puppies is to lay the foundations for healthy adulthood. Proper nutrition is required to achieve healthy growth, optimise immune function and minimise the potential for obesity and diseases. It’s important to note that a puppy’s nutritional needs are a lot different from an adult dog.
Some of the basic components necessary to the health and growth of a puppy are water, calories, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals.
Water is the most vital nutrient for all mammals and makes up 75% of the body mass at birth. It has a major role in the functions of the body including the transportation and delivery of nutrients, regulation of body temperature and lubrication of joints, eyes and inner ear. If a puppy does not receive enough water then it will start to show signs of dehydration such as lethargy and dry skin.
One of the most important factors of a puppy’s diet is to ensure that there is a large number of calories that fits into a small stomach. It is advised that to feed puppies little of often which helps to fuel them until their next feeding.
Protein provides amino acids which are the building blocks to growth. Puppies require significantly more protein than adult dogs and this is particularly important during the rapid growth phase up to 14 weeks of age. An insufficient supply of protein can lead to poor growth and development.
This is an important source of energy for fueling growth. It is estimated that fat has approximately twice as many calories per gram compared with protein or carbohydrates, making this an ideal component of a puppy recipe.
Puppies have specific vitamin and mineral requirements that differ from adult dogs. They require minerals that help develop healthy bones and teeth such as calcium and phosphorous, as well as zinc that play a role in skin health and protein metabolism.
Your Superfood 65 Puppy Salmon with Dill, Spinach, Fennel, Asparagus & Tomato recipe has been formulated with the finest ingredients to help support the growth and development of puppies. For many cat owners, their cat is part of the family and want to provide them with the best quality of life as possible.
Cats require food that is suited to their specific physiological and physical needs. As cats are obligate carnivores, they have a higher protein requirement than dogs; at least one-third of a healthy adult cat’s diet should consist of protein.
It’s also essential that cat food recipes are rich in the amino acid taurine and Vitamin A. Ensuring cats receive enough taurine is extremely important to support eye and heart health. A diet that is rich in Vitamin A is vital to prevent skin and coat deterioration, maintain eye health and prevent muscle weakness.
An important feature in a cats diet is meat. Cats are carnivores, their gastrointestinal tracts and metabolism have adapted to eating meat. Whilst plant-based ingredients can’t be digested well by cats and require essential nutrients such as vitamins and amino acids that only meat can provide to them.
Our recipes have been formulated to provide all the nutrients for the everyday health and well being of cats as well as added functional ingredients like cellulose to help support the reduction of hairballs.
As cats are so notoriously particular when it comes to mealtimes, we’ve carried out a series of feeding trials to make sure we are confident our recipes are palatable to cats. With an assortment of the finest freshly prepared animal protein sources, we can be sure that cats love our recipes.

Q: Can hyper-activeness in pets be caused by their diet?
A: It is usual for healthy and stimulated dogs to be energetic, alert and interested, although a dog which cannot calm down or relax could be hyperactive. This could be due to several reasons, amongst them is the diet fed.
Dogs should be fed the correct diet for their life stage, as these diets are specifically formulated to provide sufficient energy requirements. If the pet owner’s adult dog is fed a diet for a puppy or working dog then they are likely to be getting too much protein and energy, possibly causing hyperactivity. The same scenario can be true for senior dogs on an adult diet. Sugar can cause peaks in dog’s blood sugar which can cause hyperactive behaviour. Although none of the Super Premium & Grain Free ranges contain added sugar, many treats and human food “tit-bits” do.
Choosing treats which do not contain sugar and refraining from giving a dog unhealthy human food could reduce this hyperactive behaviour. It is important that when feeding treats alongside a pets daily food, the owner lowers the food given in order to take into account the additional calories. Some sensitive dogs can also have the same peaking blood sugar reaction from carbohydrates like cereals and grains. In this case we would advise that a diet from our Grain Free range was fed. This is because the Grain Free range contains Sweet Potato which has a low glycemic index.
